The Farm · Blackwattle Growers
Wollombi Valley, lower Hunter.
The land
A sheltered grove. A working family farm.
Blackwattle Growers sits in the beautiful Wollombi Valley, in the lower Hunter, surrounded by native bushland, open paddocks and the quiet rhythms of country life.
Our beehives rest in a sheltered grove on the north-eastern edge of the farm beneath towering Grey Gums, Stringybarks and of course Blackwattles. Two nearby dams provide a reliable water source for the bees and attract an abundance of native wildlife throughout the year.
We never move our hives. They remain in the same location season after season, gathering nectar from the same surrounding landscape and producing honey that reflects the unique character of this place.
It is a slower, more traditional way of keeping bees, but we believe it creates something special — a genuine expression of the land and the seasons that shape it.
More than honey
A working family farm, built around a love of growing things.
While honey may be what first brings many visitors to us, the bees are only one small part of our farm story.
Across the property you'll find carefully tended gardens, native trees and a specialist cactus nursery where we grow thousands of rare and unusual plants from around the world. From giant columnar cacti to slow-growing collector species, the nursery has become one of our greatest passions and a project that continues to expand each year.
The gardens surrounding our home are another labour of love. Matt is constantly planning, planting and landscaping new areas of the farm, creating spaces that blend naturally with the surrounding bushland while providing habitat for birds, insects and other wildlife.

Our neighbours
Kangaroos at dawn. Nineteen blue-egg hens.
Among our favourite residents are the local kangaroos. Large mobs visit the farm most mornings and evenings, grazing peacefully around the dams and paddocks. Watching them move through the landscape has become one of the simple pleasures of life here and a daily reminder that we share this land with many other creatures.
Our farm is also home to nineteen Cream Legbar hens, a beautiful heritage breed known for laying striking blue eggs. The hens spend their days foraging through the gardens and pasture, and their fresh blue eggs have become a favourite among local customers alongside our honey.
“Care for the land, work with nature, and leave things a little better than we found them.”
Whether it's nurturing bees, growing rare plants, collecting blue eggs, planting trees or simply preserving habitat for the wildlife that calls the farm home, we're building something we hope will endure for generations to come.
Blackwattle Growers is more than a honey farm. It's our home, our passion and a place we're proud to share.
